Woodward Hall Gets Haunted

Woodward Hall Gets Haunted

For many, Halloween is a time of spooky costumes and sweet treats. However, for the residents of Woodward Hall, Halloween has taken on a different meaning. Indeed, Woodward’s annual “Haunted Halls” offers resident students a chance to get involved.

Even though college students are seen as being too old to go out and trick-or-treat themselves, that isn’t an excuse to not make the best of it for all the little kids! The goal of this event is to give children a fun, safe, and warm place to enjoy Halloween.

At this famous on-campus event, children from outside of Bridgewater State can go and collect treats from the residents. These treats are provided by the Office of Residence Life & Housing, so any resident of the building can participate, as long as they volunteer to do so. Residents from outside of Woodward also volunteer, functioning as tour-guides for the children and their parents.

Sophie Fagerquist, a Resident Assistant in Scott Hall and a former resident of Woodward, describes Haunted Halls as “a safe trick-or-treating alternative for children of the surrounding Bridgewater community.” She continues, “It’s a fun experience and helps connect people to the community...The children are just as excited to see you as you are to see them, and that makes the experience worthwhile.” Jon Alves, an Institutional Security Officer, echoed Sophie’s sentiments, stating, “It’s a really good time. You get all kinds of kids from the community who come in. It really brings the community together.”

Ultimately, Haunted Halls helps connect the community of Bridgewater State to the community of Bridgewater. Additionally, it offers resident students the opportunity to meet some of Bridgewater States’ faculty and staff, because many of them bring their children to see the university. Haunted Halls occurs on Wednesday, October 31st, and goes from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm.
